IN ROTATION: Our most played albums in MAY 2019

YETI’S IN ROTATION: MAY 2019

I’ve had a lot of different bands in my rotation lately. The new Possessed and Nocturnus AD albums both blew me away. I went to a few live shows throughout May which always heavily influences my playlists. Hot off the concert rush, I’ve been listening to a lot of Alien Weaponry, Vale of Pnath, Belphegor, and Incantation. This year’s been great for concerts so far, with Tomb Mold, Rivers of Nihil, Iron Maiden, and Between the Buried and Me, and more booked on the horizon! Adding to the mix, a few new bands I’ve been blasting recently and highly recommended are Winterwolf, Nightmarer, and Flub. Check out some of my essential listening, back into the forest to forage I go! Metal Yeti

NOCTURNUS AD – “Paradox” (2019)

NOCTURNUS AD and Mike Browning have warped in time to bring us the next chapter of Nocturnus with their latest album “Paradox”. This album is an incredible return to form with even the cover art a head nod to their early albums “The Key” and “Thresholds”. Grab your laser rifle and enjoy the ride!

POSSESSED – “Revelations of Oblivion” (2019)

The space time continuum is fucked. It’s 2019 and we have a new POSSESSED album. The crazy part is, it completely kicks ass! Tracks like Dominion, Ritual, and The Word have been getting a lot of attention. They utilize a slightly different vocal direction this time but they are still every bit as brutal as you would expect.

VALE OF PNATH – “Accursed” (2019)

It’s hard to find good technical death metal these days (I blame the AI). Lucky for all of us, there are bands like Vale of Pnath shredding the status quo, delivering an absolutely crushing new album. “Accursed” gives you everything you want out of a high energy tech death album but also exploits a number of variants to keep things structured. Definitely check this album out if you haven’t already!

BELPHEGOR – “Totenritual” (2017)

One of the best live shows I’ve seen this year so far was the blackened death metal demons of Belphegor. They exceeded my expectations on stage and almost ripped the gig off its’ foundations. Hel Lehner locked eyes with me while I was raging and I’m pretty sure he stole whatever little bit was left of my soul. The pit was absolute carnage and left me with a fractured foot!! I have no regrets.

ALIEN WEAPONRY – “Tū” (2018)

Alien Weaponry are one the best things going in modern metal! I saw them live at a bar they were not legally aloud to drink at yet… They had tremendous stage presence and absolutely slayed the crowded with their dialed in thrashy groove. They make unique music and focus on a specific Māori experience and heritage gives them a huge X-factor in a sea of madness. There will be a lot more from these young New Zealanders for sure, and I’m looking forward to it.
