Single Review: Crucella– Behedoom for #METALMOMENTUM by Sílvia
There’s a new band emerging from Sweden, seducing those who dare to listen to their haunting, slow tempos full of melody. Its name is Crucella, and let me introduce you to their members:
Belinda Blomqvist: Vocals
Willy Maturana: Guitars
Masse Jaque: Bass
Asadi Arya: Drums
Well, let me start by saying how I knew about Crucella. One day, I saw that Willy Maturana (lead guitar on Internal Decay masterpiece “A Forgotten Dream”, from 1993) was playing in this band, and as I’m always interested in the works of musicians I like, I checked this song. And, I was instantly allured by the dark melodies that spread around me, as if I had opened the door to a timeless place…
In “Behedoom”, riffs are heavy, and melodies are gloomy and well-crafted, all driven by the soft pace of drums. The dense atmosphere wraps you from the initial notes, and at times it feels like wandering through a dark and desolate field. Belinda has a deep, serene voice, and what she narrates is like a statement: a story about creatures from Hell that go for vengeance on those who were evil and deserve punishment. The choruses add an extra touch of splendor, enhancing the intensity of the manifest.
The keyharp is skillfully played by Mika Korhonen (who was in Withering, a melodic death metal band from Finland in the 00s decade). This instrument gives a distinctive touch to the song, something emotional. There’s a passage where the time seems to stop, and the keyharp adds an extra layer to the music, like a spiritual feel; and right after that, the brilliant guitar solo cradled by that instrument provides the climax of the song. It’s a peak of drama, when all the retained excitement runs free for a moment. Feels so liberating… almost a moment of joy.

Guitars and bass build a sonic landscape full of atmosphere; you can listen to the bass resonating while riffs and melodies are permeating your brain, and drums set up the retaining walls so the emotion doesn’t overflow. It’s like a slow dance, guided by Belinda’s warm voice.
The artwork for this single is a strong image: a maiden standing barefoot on a field, between two crosses and surrounded by skulls, snakes, and fire; her gaze lost and with no expression, her reddish hair waving, in heavy contrast to the sky filled with dark clouds. An impressive vision indeed.
“Behedoom” is intense and has a lot of feeling; it’s like an emotional journey. And the best tester that a song resonates in me is that I’ve had it playing inside my head for days. I am already craving for more… 9/10
