#AlbumReview: Alphaxone – Caliginous by Pegah

“Caliginous” is the latest EP by Tehran-based artist Alphaxone. If your mind is chaotic and crowded with voices, close your eyes and let this record take you somewhere beyond the noise. Allow the sounds to slowly penetrate the mind, replacing the chaos with a state of stillness.

As the light slips away from the universe and everything dissolves into the void, somewhere in this neverland, “False Dawn” emerges. There is no sun left, nor any sign of life, yet the track carries a soft and mesmerizing soundscape that makes the listener feel strangely alive within the darkness, suspended in the vastness of the void. The deep drones create a sense of distance, while subtle layers gradually unfold without disturbing the stillness.

As the album moves into the next track, this feeling of serenity grows stronger. “Remnants of Light” feels like catching distant sparks of light in an otherwise endless darkness, bringing with them a quiet sense of hope. The chaos, troubles, and pain of the world seem to have been left behind, replaced by the calmness of the universe. Layers of sound gradually emerge from the darkness, like fragments of something once hidden, allowing the listener to glimpse a truth that has remained out of sight.

Whatever has been imposed upon us seems to lose its importance at this moment. “Abeyance” becomes a moment of stillness—a pause suspended outside the chaos of the world. Rather than leading somewhere, the soundscape simply allows the listener to remain in this state, where nothing needs to be solved and nothing demands an immediate response. 9/10
