Album Review: Withering Soul – Passage Of The Arcane via Liminal Dread Productions by Michelle

It is to be said that I definetely did not expect for Withering Soul to match my expectations. When picking something out to review, I mainly just randomly choose an album and hope for the best. Planning to release their next album on the 14th of November, Withering Soul greets the listener with their heavy and catchy riffs, not to mention melodic elements which perfectly align next to each other. Not even halfway through the album and I immediately said to myself that this is the record I’m gonna be reviewing, thanks to their amazing way of producing their music.

The first couple of songs managed to intrigue me enough to keep on listening, both of them having the same raw energy and energetic tempos, which are combined with moments of calmness at some point, giving the record just the perfect amount of inclusivity and diversity. A thing that I really do appreciate is how pretty much most of the songs start off fast and straightforward, an example being ‘The Monolith Embodied’. While the vocals don’t impress me much – yet still fit in perfectly with the style Withering Soul is incorporating – this album not only contains the type of riffs and blast beats that I so very much like, but the album cover is also quite pleasant to look at, matching pretty good with the overall sound. This is why I think album artworks are also really important, as they strike the listener’s attention when picking out an album to listen to.

‘Trajectory’ is, pretty much like all of the previous songs, holding the same energy and determination, the tremolo picking at the start sounding quite smooth and pleasant. The very slight appearance of the synthesizer makes everything even better, balancing things out. The last couple of songs end the album beautifully, ‘Burden of the Valiant’ specifically debuting in a very calm way while gradually increasing in speed and roughness, not long before suddenly changing the tonality in riffs and harshly continuing to open the exit for Withering Soul’s amazingly executed upcoming record. I would 100% recommending a listen, because I don’t think you’ll be left dissapointed! 10/10
