Sgàile is a fresh and innovative addition to the “progressive/folk” metal scene in 2018, hailing from
Scotland. Created by the versatile multi-instrumentalist Tony Dunn, this musical project offers a calm
and atmospheric blend of melodies that strike a meditative tone.
Tony reflects on the formation of Sgàile in 2018, particularly during the creation of Ideals & Morality.
After initial uncertainty about the response, he now felt liberated to follow his instincts thanks to a
growing audience who appreciated his work. This newfound freedom allowed him to write a concept
album that is a departure from his previous endeavors and brings a mature essence to the Sgàile sound.
The recording process was refined, utilizing lessons learned from Ideals & Morality and working again
with Mike Lamb (Sojourner, Remina) to achieve the desired sound quality. Traverse The Bealach, the
centerpiece of the album, unfolds an 11-minute journey of fast drums, innovative guitar riffs, bass, piano
and clean vocals. The climax creates the illusion of crossing the globe and exploring the unseen.
The following track, Lamentations by the Lochan, is more melodic and focuses on guitar and vocals,
creating a charming and joyful mood.
The rest of the album invites the listener to immerse themselves in its diverse offerings and promises a
musical exploration that crosses reality to post-apocalyptic Scottland! 8,5/10 Andrei
