BAZ Friday XXXIV – Underground Reco For Underground Maniacs

And here I’m again… Giving to you some more recommendations.
This time decided to choose the bands by name.
Maybe I had a bit of luck? I don’t know. And What I know is I really loved to listen to these four bands and all them so different. Hope you too.

Band: Astralborne
Title: Eternity’s End
Label: Independent
Release date: 22 November 2019
Country: USA
Format reviewed: Digital Promo

Astralborne was born in the winter of 2016 by the hands of Derik Smith and Jayson Cessna of Hammer Horde together with Paul Fuzinski of Blood of the Prophets. The band has a few influences like Black Metal or Thrash Metal, but what really defines the band is Melodic Death Metal. Yes, it’s true. Personally, I’m not a big fan of this music style but this band manage to grab me very well. What an album. Very good. Very well “constructed”, with very good and at the same time catchy riffs. Good details on the drum and very precise. The voice is strong and very good too. Even if the music style played by them is not my beach or cup of tea, this album I will listen to many times for sure because is very good.

Band: Kaldvard
Title: Dømt til bål og brann
Label: Independent
Release date: 29 November 2019
Country: Norway
Format reviewed: Digital Promo

To start, Kaldvard is an ancient Norwegian word meaning cold/chilly. This album starts with an intro with 2m48s and after that… Some icy Black Metal riffs started to come out from my stereo. Uh, la la. So good. reminding me of some old Black Metal albums but with much better production. eheheheh. This album is divided into seven songs and to be honest I don’t know and I can’t say which one is the best of the album (Well, maybe the one you will listen to). They sound so good. The band doesn’t bring anything new into the underground and no need. They just need to keep doing what they do, and that is very well done. Check them.

Band: Hexekration Rites
Title: Desekration Manifesto
Label: Atavism Records
Release date: 22 November 2019
Country: France
Format reviewed: Digital Promo

Well… Are you into the “typical” Black Death Metal bands? That kind of band that is playing a piece of devastating music, that sometimes sounds chaotic cause of the (lack) sound production and with a lot of “bass” on the same, with a sick voice and sometimes (not to say every time) with delay or reverb as effects? Plenty of loud solos ending so fast as they started? Well… If you are… This is not for you. Joking. EhEh. Yes, this band is for you. Not complaining about it. I like it. But unfortunately, this is only an EP. Yes, only 5 songs with almost 25 minutes. Hmmm… To be honest I already saw/listen to albums with the same time of playing or even less… Well… It doesn’t matter. Listen to this and after that let us talk a bit if you want.

Band: Canyon Of The Skull
Title: Sins of the Past
Label: Independent
Release date: 20 November 2019
Country: USA
Format reviewed: Digital Promo

To be honest, I chose this album to review because of the band’s name. And… No regrets. believe me. The band is on the underground since 2007 (first release), one more demo and 3 albums including this one, and sadly I never heard about them till now. Erik Ogershok on guitar is the only member of the original formation and for this album, we also have Todd Haug on bass and Mike Miczek from Broken Hope among others. So, you might think that you will have a Death Metal band here right? Nop. And did you notice what I didn’t write till now? Yes, no vocals if you notice that. And… No need. Yes, no need. Only guitar, bass, and drum. Very good. The band is moving inside the Doom Metal and Sludge and I didn’t notice the “missing” vocals. Cause they have music to fulfill it. Very good. Check them… But… It is only one thing that is missing here. The guitar sound should be more “heavy” and much more “power”.
