IN ROTATION: Our most played albums in August 2019

METAL GENTLEMAN’S AUGUST’S IN ROTATION LIST

After a prolonged absence from almost anything related to music, I started to ease myself back into my listening habits. I’ve been looking for brand new records to review and others that I got to enjoy without spoiling them with the added stress of having to write about them. Here are five of the latter that I enjoyed the most .

Graintable – Universal Ash

I’m opening the list with something that has nothing to do with metal whatsoever, but nevertheless, it was a constant presence in my list. Pure, uncut ambient, with light soundscapes that transport you to a world of unimaginable inner peace.

Conjurer and Pijn – Curse these metal hands

Next on the list is a record that made a few waves earlier this summer when they released the first single. Considering how Conjurer’s debut sounded, no one expected such a beautiful record, perfect to have some feel-good moments while lying in the sun. Let the elitists be with their menacing, cold metal and give this album a spin. You won’t be disappointed.

Ashbringer – Absolution

It looks like this month’s list is pretty much filled with melodic releases, and Ashbringer is no exception. Over one hour of atmospheric black metal, sprinkled with some tasteful shoegaze moments and with a beauty only challenged by the next album on my list.

Falls of Rauros – Patterns in Mythology

I’m not sure how to describe “Patterns in Mythology”. Every time I think about it, I simply get lost in its grandeur, trying to recall an album that left a similar impression on me, but to no avail. I followed this band growing along me as a young metalhead, and now I’m more than exhilarated to witness the result of this lengthy process.

Devil Worshiper – Music for the Endtimes

A fitting end to such a list, or am I wrong? There are times when melody and happiness won’t do much. This album is here to help in those situations. Vertigo inducing, pained, psychedelic, terrifying are all ways to describe this twisted, unholy record. It’s a challenging listen and one that will drain any will to hold on to your sanity.
