Black Friday XII – Underground Reco
This time my #BlackFriday – #UndergroundReco started in Russia, I jumped to the neighboring country of Belarus, went to Italy and ended my journey in the USA. I found very good bands, very good surprises, but all with a lot of quality. This is one of the reasons that I love the #Underground. Enjoy it…
Band: Amber Tears
Title: When No Trails
Label: Bad MoodMan Music (Solitude Productions sub-label)
Release Date: 29 March 2019
Country: Russia
Format Reviewed: Digital Promo
Russia, in my opinion, is one of the best countries delivering us Doom Metal or Funeral Doom and this band AMBER TEARS is one of them. Moving inside the Doom Metal world AMBER TEARS bring to us “When No Trails” the third album and 9 years already passed since the previous album “Key to December”. But, AMBER TEARS surprised me with some Folk melodies. Not the happy, troll, horns up with mead inside and everyone singing “la la la la la la”. It´s melodies done with the guitar that fits so well on the Doom Metal riffs, with a strong and good voice, together with the rhythm/beat, marked by the drums. It’s different and it’s good. You should check them.

Band: Downcross
Title: Mysteries Of Left Path
Label: Saturn Sector Rex
Release Date: 21 February 2019
Country: Belarus
Format Reviewed: Digital Promo
WOW… Really. Very good. This band from Belarus released the first album and I have to say that is a really good one. It’s powerful in the music with killer riffs and the sound production is also very powerful. The melody on the riffs that Dzmtr on the guitar, did on this album is very good and Ldzmr on the vocals and drums, tchhhh… Very good indeed. The vocals are the Black Metal typical voice but with a mix of a hoarse voice. The songs are a mix of fast and mid-tempo, but the band also delivered us some “slow” moments. The mix of everything, including riffs, voice, drums, construction of the songs, the sound quality, is very well done and I must say this… It’s already one of my favorite albums from this year.
Band: Thecodontion
Title: Jurassic
Label: Xenoglossy Productions (Ita) / Wooaaargh (Ger)/ Glossolalia Records (Usa)
Release Date: 22 March 2019
Country: Italy
Format Reviewed: Digital Promo
While I was reading the email from Xenoglossy Productions I clicked the “play” button on my music player and … “Uh la la, a bass with a lot of distortion. This reminds me of Necromantia and some Pornogrind bands.”, but it was just a “reminds me”. This band does not have anything related to pornogrind bands. But with Black Metal, yes they have, but with Necromantia only the bass with distortion. They are a Black Death Metal band as many out there but with just two persons. Stilgar on Bass and Heliogabalus on Vocals. Yes, That’s all. No guitar, no drummer but with programmed drums or drum machine. Just these two crazy Italian guys (in the good sense). The lyrics according to the information received by the label are about prehistory. This 7″ have 4 songs and it’s not bad at all, some interesting parts were found and it’s different and because of that got my attention. After listening to several times, I can say that the sound of this band is within the same wave of bands as Blasphemy, Teitenblood…

Band: Undeath
Title: Demo ’19
Label: Caligari Records
Release Date: 29 March 2019
Country: USA
Format Reviewed: Digital Promo
When I saw the name UNDEATH on the promo my eyes opened wide and well. But it’s not the same band. I thought it was Undeath from Denmark who released a demo in the late ’80s if I’m not mistaken. I have that demo recorded somewhere on my old tapes. This UNDEATH is from the USA and they play old fashion dirty Death Metal that reminds me of a mix of Diabolic, some Pestilence or Death (the part of harmonics and the leads) with old Death Metal style and the voice that reminds me many bands from the ’90s. That kind of strong and sick voice. Can you imagine the mix? I can and it’s what it sounds to me. The tone of the guitar could be stronger in order to give more “weight” to the songs. But since the demo was self-recorded in the band’s practice room, it sounds very good. At this moment the band only have one guitar player, one vocalist and the drummer. I couldn’t find who recorded the bass lines but I did find that was the drummer who made the artwork of the demo. Check them.
