Azaghast, a one man band hailing from Finland, presents his debut album, “Ghost Touch”, combining black metal with a dark romanticism, where music is often wrapped in a gloomy atmosphere. There are a lot of details all along the album that will make it very enjoyable for those who like this style, me included.

The album opens with “Ghost Touch”, featuring haunting piano notes alongside tremolo riffs on the guitar, and the raspy, dragged vocals, though relegated to the background, are pure dark poetry. The atmosphere is eerie, spectral… I like it. The drums provide a steady accompaniment, culminating in a brief, relentless burst of energy at the end.

I like to hear this characteristic crackling in the tracks, the low resolution of the music and the cold sound of the guitars; also, the fact that the piano, when it appears, has a sound that fills the space with majesty, and also with melancholy.

Throughout the album, black metal instrumentation alternates with dark, romantic piano melodies, even including highly emotional passages, and the resulting mix is ​​heartwarming. Moments of calm are followed by bursts of tremolo and blast beats. There is much melancholy and emotion in these songs, and also infinite darkness. The harsh vocals, screams, whispers… perfectly define the unique sonic journey of “Ghost Touch”.

Some themes are solemn and intense, like the instrumental “A Dirge”, short and built of pure emotion. The cinematic feel goes beyond the speakers and portrays something big, majestic. It’s like an orchestrated passage of life. “An Elegy” is another special track, made of spectral sounds, throwing the listener into an ethereal landscape. Feels from another world, I feel goosebumps…

“A Threnody” is an instrumental track where the piano plays in a very dark way; those crows and the storm heard in the background provide a menacing feeling, the somber atmosphere finally engulfs you totally.

This is a great debut, haunting dark romanticism, I can’t resist this! 9/10
