#SingleReview: iNsCissorS – It Will Not Mend for #METALMOMENTUM by Pegah

It Will Not Mend” is the latest single by Greek artist iNsCissorS. The project began in 1999 as the solo studio project of Vincent Andelmoth and later expanded to include collaborators such as cellist Jason Andelmoth. Over the years, iNsCissorS has developed a sound that draws from dark ambient, ritual music, experimental and neo-classical elements, often creating cinematic soundscapes that feel less like conventional compositions and more like soundtracks to imagined scenes, ceremonies, or forgotten worlds. “It Will Not Mend” was composed as part of an auditory companion piece for Matt Lombard’s art exhibitions.

The soundscape of the track exists in close harmony with the atmosphere of its cover art. It feels both ritualistic and atmospheric, much like a still-life photograph in which no action is taking place. Instead, we are left with the remains of something that has already happened. The pile of bones evokes mortality, death, and physical decay, yet their deliberate arrangement makes them feel less like the remains of a freshly discovered skeleton and more like something carefully accumulated—as though the fragments of what once existed have been gathered and placed before us.

The stark contrast between black and white further reinforces the image’s sense of duality, evoking darkness and light, death and existence, destruction and what remains afterward. The soundscape reflects this contrast through its layered construction. Ritualistic elements create a sense of ceremony and ancient presence, while other sounds emerge from the darker layers and introduce a subtle tension between light and darkness. Rather than moving toward a dramatic climax, the track seems to remain suspended in this state, allowing its sounds to unfold slowly around the listener.

There is something particularly striking about the relationship between the title and the imagery. “It Will Not Mend” suggests that what has been broken is beyond restoration, while the bones on the cover become a physical manifestation of that idea. Yet the track does not feel entirely lifeless. Beneath its darkness, there is still movement, however restrained, as if something continues to exist among the remnants. The result is a piece that feels less concerned with death itself than with what remains after something has been irrevocably broken. 8.5/10
