Single Review: Carach Angren – Ik Kom Uit Het Graf for #METALMOMENTUM Via Season Of Mist by Michelle

After a dreadful break of 5 years since their last album ‘Franckensteina Strataemontanus’, dutch horror metal band Carach Angren is finally surprising us with a new single from their upcoming EP ‘The Cult Of Kariba’. This long-awaited record is set to fully release on the 17th of October, marking almost 2 more months of waiting.

Obviously, like pretty much any other band, Carach Angren slowly shifted their sound with each album released throughout the years. While I did expect this shift in sound, the occasional use of the blurry-sounding piano left me pretty surprised considering how Carach Angren’s previous works feature a completely different style. This song alone is giving us quite the clue about what we’re awaiting, both in terms of storytelling and production.

With this upcoming EP, Carach Angren is featuring once more the legend of the ‘ghost lady in a white dress’ from their 2008 album ‘Lammendam’, almost like a sequel following the events from Schinveld, though this time told differently with a new figure: A witch named Kariba. To be more precise, ‘Ik Kom Uit Het Graf’ explains how a man killed by Kariba rises from the grave in search of revenge, all whilst the EP itself features a cult looking to restore Kariba back to life.

The aggressiveness in this track is perfectly executed with the combination of the periodic clean vocals, and probably the thing I enjoyed the most is the usage of the piano/keyboard like I said earlier, which only adds to the creepy atmosphere of these 5 minutes of pure madness.

‘The Cult Of Kariba’ is holding the to-be-released tracks in the following order:
1. A Malevolent Force Stirs (intro)
2. Draw Blood
3. The Resurrection of Kariba
4. Ik Kom Uit Het Graf
5. Venomous 1666

I must say that I’m very excited for what’s to come, and so this single just made me even more impatient. To me, Carach Angren have never disappointed even after the sound of their early albums have faded. This is an easy 10/10
