#AlbumReview: Relic – Crown of Flies via Malefic Records by Sílvia

Relic is a band that seems to have come out of nowhere, but the musicians behind it are not kids nor rookies. And, I can assure you, the ten minute length of this debut EP is some of the most brutal stuff I’ve listened to lately.

The drums are relentless,  killer, pure destruction unleashed. They scorch everything in their path with unstoppable brutality. And while your skull is crushed by the blast beats and the double bass pounding, the guitars snort incessantly, delivering dark, panting riffs, and it all sounds like a war machine. C’mon, the rumbling is so damn intense…

Gutturals are gnarly and they unfold a scene of decay, blood, and infernal suffering. Highly disgusting, as it must be. I think these are the best compliments for the man holding these duties…

The artwork, done by Sant V. Schreiber (aka. Sannosferatu) shows a bloodstained crown made of bones raised by the hands or a rotting person as in an unholy offering, all surrounded by flies in a perfect image of putrefaction. The logo was made by Christophe Szpajdel, resembling a crown itself, which results in a cool visual composition. The rot is almost palpable…

Four songs that last around two and a half minutes each: this is a short but absolutely devastating EP. There is not a moment of respite or a trace of softness: the brutality envelops you from the very beginning. Your senses will be demolished and pounded, and your mind will be engulfed in chaos and decay. This is so ideal to blast at full volume on a Sunday morning to your neighbours’ delight!  9/10
