#SingleReview: Trivan – Abyss of Crawling Shadows for #METALMOMENTUM by Sílvia

“Abyss of Crawling Shadows” is the fourth single by the Croatian band Trivan since they started releasing music in 2024, and they continue delivering their powerful sound, with darkness in the background, but overall very dynamic and with highly infectious melodies.

When I listen to Trivan‘s songs repeatedly, I realize that the darkness comes from the themes of their lyrics and the raspy vocals. As for the music itself, it conveys strength and energy to me. And I really like this duality.

This song talks about grieving, from a kind of optimistic perspective. Not that we must surrender to pain, but we must embrace it to  become stronger. And of course, never forgetting the memories that come with that grief. Once you’ve seen the abyss and danced on its edge, it’s time to overcome and rise from the pain.

In “Abyss of Crawling Shadows”, drums are overwhelming as they mark the strong pace of the journey through pain and suffering. Beating hard all the way through, even when they go a bit slower the energy is there. Vocals are harsh, coming from a twisted soul, and some screams tear through the vocalist’s throat. And the string work, woah, I love how guitars and bass build together melodies that become radiant, even if at times there’s obscurity all around. I get excited with the pulse of the bass, and with some triumphant guitar passages.

What really blows my mind on this song is the guitar solo: a brilliant demonstration of abilities, at some moments showing classic influences. A waterfall of emotions through guitar playing, a minute of pure joy. The relentless drums makes it even better, underlining every note with their constant beating and the bass pedal running non-stop.
Another fantastic single by Trivan, they are building something strong and it’s worth keeping an eye on them.  9/10
