Album Review: Tårfödd – Lidande by Michelle

‘Lidande’ is one of the many recently released records by Tårfödd, a swedish post-black image with a quite remarkable style. Even though this solo project has been continuously producing music over the past couple of years, ‘Lidande’ really stood out to me from the moment I was searching for my next album to write a review for, and it did so with the gloomy-looking album artwork, kind of already giving me a rough idea of what I was about to listen to.

‘Vemod’ introduces the album pretty much just like I expected, calmly at first as the guitar picking enters the atmosphere. Throughout the whole album there is a mixt between calmness and violence, these two elements being blended accordingly to the type of sound Tårfödd executes. Everything feels ambiental, that is until the vocals make their way through, kind of like breaking the ice. Personally, I’m not sure if the high pitchiness really fits, though what I really enjoyed is the ocasional feminine chanting through the first track, as it pretty much feels like the needed missing piece of puzzle.

Even though most of the song titles are in swedish, the two exceptions are ‘The strive for existence’ and ‘The thing to fear is life’, only further accentuating the sorrowness Tårfödd is broadcasting with their music, the type of communication in which there isn’t needed further explanation.
One of my favorite things about this record is the intro of ‘En ny svart värld’, the piano sounding almost nostalgic, like a fading memory from a distant past as the calmness is being interrupted not long after. If I had to be honest, this is probably my favorite song out of the whole album.

Another aspect I find worth mentioning is perhaps the palm muting found at around the end of ‘Motgång’, bringing more rawness into the track. 8/10
