#Album Review: Graveripper – From Welkin To Tundra via Wise Blood Records by Michelle

Even though I may have recently discovered Graveripper’s work, it must be said that their latest record, ‘From Welkin To Tundra’, brings the listener a rollercoaster of fast and energetic riffs despite its quite atmospheric and slow intro. Borrowing elements from speed/thrash metal, this album might aswell make me dive deeper into Graveripper’s discography given both their style of production and somewhat uniqueness.

‘Bring Upon Pain’ is a bit out of place considering the previous song, which acts as an introduction to this record. Still, this is definitely not a complaint as I quite enjoyed the fastness and overall guitar riffs of this track, piquing my interest on the rest of the album since their straightforward atitude.
‘Hexenhammer’ and ‘Death’s Cold Embrace’ put more accent onto the black metal aspects considering both the distorsioned riffs and tremolo picking, only adding more inclusivity and diversity to Graveripper’s latest record.

‘Sanctioned Slaughter’ immediately caught my attention with its rhythmic approach, much like most of the previous tracks. ‘Hounds From Hell’ is alike aswell, bringing the perfect energy and atmosphere needed into this album. Honestly, an aspect I really like about this record is the perfect blend between slowness at the start of some of the songs, yet with a twist not long after which kind of compliments the elements from the different genres quite beautifully.

The bass present in ‘… And Now It’s Dark’ adds more depth and rawness into the track in combination with the following riffs. The overall vocals present throughout the record fit quite well considering Graveripper’s style, the blend between low and high pitched being a pretty smooth addition to the clash of instruments.
Since I don’t think it is worth repeating myself for the last couple of tracks, ‘From Welkin to Tundra’ offers the listener an enjoyable experience with their latest addition to their discography, especially if one is prone to enjoy both speediness and harsher aspects. 9/10
