Album Review: Eldfödd – Risen from the Flames via Edged Circle Productions by Sílvia
What started as a one man project by Sebastian Ramstedt, is a band with a complete lineup today. Eldfödd (it means “fireborn” in Swedish) was forged worshipping old school Death Metal, and with this in mind you can expect nothing but pure brutality infesting your brain.
The musicians in the band are: Perra Karlsson (drums) – Erik Sahlström (vocals) – Sebastian Ramstedt (lead guitar) – Victor Brandt (bass) – Johan Jansson (rhythm guitar). You can check out the bands each of them are in, to get an idea of the high level of this new project.
When it comes to the drums: they are merciless, playing fast and with fury. The song that specially blows my mind is “Beyond the Fire”, where the maintained fast speed of the drum kit turns this song into a fireball. Also remarkable are the crushing riffs and the monstrous vocals in this track, but the percussion is simply spectacular. All this EP is full of pummeling drum patterns that are played with accuracy, not trying to bury the other instruments but building all together a monster, with its roots in the classic sound.

Talking about vocals, the growls are deep and use some kind of distortion/echo in order to sound more menacing and profound. At some points it seems there’s a filthy beast providing those growls, other times it sounds like a deranged being tearing out its throat. And I think these rotten vocals are a perfect fit for this music.
The bass has a great role in these four tracks, it’s not a mere filler but a perfectly audible instrument. In “Possess, Bind and Devour”, it fills the background with deep and vibrant low notes, adding a thick texture to the whole. It also runs hand in hand with the guitars, providing the perfect support, entangling with them and shining its own way.
Where you notice the biggest old school worship is in the guitar work. The riffs are infectious, sounding like those of decades ago, running fast and wicked. The rhythm guitar sets a solid background in which the lead builds its flourish work. And the solos are pure brilliancy, you can notice Sebastian’s signature in their execution, neat and skilled, glowing at each note.
As a debut EP, it couldn’t be better! It encapsulates the golden Death Metal era in these 4 tracks, with a bit more modern sound and production. And honestly, I’m already craving for more! By listening to Eldfödd, I feel like consumed by hellfire. …And, isn’t that comforting? 10/10
