Album Review: Extinction Complete – All Life Ends by Sílvia

Extinction Complete is a band I have zero references to. I mean, it was a friend of mine who talked to me about them, then I listened to their recently self-released debut EP and as I enjoyed it, I decided to write a review in the zine. Because, well, my aim is to support the underground as much as I can, and this is something I can do for the bands. Trying to reach people who read my articles and hopefully, they’ll like the music as well. If you are one of these, please spread the word, in order to reach every corner of our Metal community.

The only thing I know about the band is that there are just two members in it: V S, the person who plays all the instruments and it’s from Germany, and T J, the vocalist, who is from Finland. And they do a great job with this release, delivering crunchy, furious and brrrrutal Death Metal ala Swedish style. Yes, you read it right. You are not just listening to Death Metal: your ears are raped by the classic HM-2 sound that simply destroy your brain cells with these 4 songs.

Riffs are damn infectious, with that characteristic buzzing sound that’s easily recognisable. Guitars build a wall of sound that becomes vicious and super intense. And drums are responsible for the relentless and continuous violent rattle, while the bass remains in the background emphasizing the whole sound. What to say about vocals, aggressive and sounding like the emissary of the apocalypse, totally doomed. Lyrics talk about the extinction of the human race and it’s done in a very dark way, depicting clear images that you can really see in your mind with no big effort. Death, rot and the end of all light… and the dead coming “alive” and getting out of the tombs… All served with deadly style in a grave stone dish. These are great apocalyptic messages indeed.

The lyrics in “Spawn of Blood” are about life coming from death, and I like the dark poetry it contains. A new era of non-alive “humans” ruling the Earth? Wouldn’t be worse than nowadays, that’s for sure. Jokes aside, this song has a very strong grip: the main riff is very addictive, vocals seem to be rotten as the character the lyrics talk about, and drums play relentlessly, fast, turning themselves into a destruction machine. I’m breathless.

There’s also place for some clean guitar solo parts, and it’s like an oasis in the middle of all that rot. The solo at the end of “Vortex” is really bright, and perfectly executed. And in “Shattered Paths”, the lead guitar shines at another level: the final part of this song (and of this EP) distills pure love for the classics and it shows a great amount of skill with this instrument.

The main thing I feel while listening to the EP “All Life Ends” by Extinction Complete is, besides enjoying their Old School Swedish Death Metal mastery, a mix of void and sadness, as I understand there’s no salvation for humanity… and zombies will rule the Earth as soon as we all die. Well, that’s pretty cool.

I like the cover art, it’s a very dark image of what this EP contains: lyrics talking about the extinction of all life and the rise of zombies, rotten music played with style, a decomposed and grim reality for no one to witness.

What a debut! I can see great things coming for Extinction Complete. 9/10
