Album Review: Schwarzer Tag, Tunnel Kasino & Eva C.Petersen – Divided We Fall (Part 1) via Ignore The Past Recordings by Pegah

“Divided We Fall” is an evocative album by Schwarzer Tag, created in collaboration with Tunnel Kasino and featuring the voice of Eva C. Petersen. I was immediately taken aback upon discovering the lyrical depth—each track revealed a new layer of surprise, weaving in the poetry of William Blake, Shakespeare, John Milton, Dante, and even a passage from Sophocles’ Electra. What truly captivated me was the contrast between these timeless, classical texts and the modern, experimental soundscapes. This fusion of eras results in a deeply innovative work that bridges centuries of artistic expression. Here I’m going to elaborate on the first six tracks of the album, and the rest will be discussed in the second part of the review.

The way the album begins with “The Angel”, it never even crosses your mind that this poem has been written by the romantic poet William Blake. In his work, the figure of the angel often holds a dual meaning—sometimes a guardian, other times a force that restrains personal freedom and imagination. This ambiguity is beautifully echoed in the soundscape: the track begins cloaked in loneliness and fear. But as it progresses, the energy shifts. The music grows more intense, and what begins as a cry of solitude evolves into a scream of liberation, a declaration of strength in self-reliance. “Tired with all these” shifts the atmosphere noticeably, echoing the disillusionment at the heart of Shakespeare’s sonnet. The choice of this particular poem feels especially smart—its themes of moral fatigue and spiritual weariness resonate strongly in today’s world. In a time when values are constantly shifting and concepts often feel distorted or misplaced.

The Load of Grief” is my favorite track on the album—a powerful monologue drawn from the Greek tragedy “Electra” by Sophocles. As the piece unfolds, the soundscape grows increasingly emotional, mirroring the unbearable weight of Electra’s agony over the brutal death of her father. The music doesn’t simply accompany the text; it amplifies its sorrow and rage, wrapping her ancient cry for justice in dense, immersive textures. Though deeply personal to Electra’s story, the pain feels universal—any listener can sense the crushing burden of grief and betrayal that defines her world.

A Poison Tree” stands out with its atmospheric keyboard lines that capture the dark tone of another masterful poem by William Blake. This track is a vivid sonic interpretation of suppressed wrath—an internal storm that quietly grows until it becomes something destructive. The tree in Blake’s poem becomes a powerful symbol of both life and decay, and the music mirrors this duality. The electric guitar expresses the underlying anger and inner conflict, while Eva’s voice adds an otherworldly layer. This haunting feeling flows seamlessly into the title track, “Divided We Fall,” another favorite of mine. Here, the sound shifts subtly—the electric tension gives way to the warmer tones of an acoustic guitar, introducing a sense of emotional release. The acoustic textures feel more intimate, almost comforting, as if offering a brief moment of reflection amidst the album’s heavier themes.

The calm soundscape continues into the next track, “Leave Me To My Sorrows”, carrying forward the emotional momentum with quiet persistence. This poem channels William Blake’s deep sense of despair and his longing for release and becoming a spirit. The use of a distorted male voice in this piece is especially striking; it evokes the sense of a ghostly presence, a voice not from the outside but resonating from deep within.
