Album Review: Impious Throne – Suffering via ATMF by Michelle
The first thing that caught my attention in this album was the cover artwork combined with the band’s logo, which I think go perfectly together. Another thing that is to mention is the fact that each song is composed of one single word, an interesting aspect I’d say, considering this isn’t always stumbled upon.
‘Exordium’ is possibly an introduction to the album, except a full-on instrumental makes its way in. Most album intros are ambiental and don’t contain any musical aspects into them, so this was a pretty enjoyable 1 and a half minute.
The second track’s vocals, double bass drums, and heavy guitar riffs really reminded me quite a bit of Belphegor, as the tremolo picking feels oddly similar to those of the blackened death metal act. Either way, I absolutely loved the part starting from minute 3 as I found it pretty rhythmic and melancholic in some way.
It’s truly admirable to acknowledge how these underrated bands produce music because not a lot of them get the attention they deserve. Even if some of them sound similar to other bands, the effort put into production will always have my respect, whether their sound is on my liking or not – I, personally, will never hate on an artist that actually puts dedication to what they want to do, and so Impious Throne really proves their commitment with their latest release.
‘Abyss’ seems quite energetic, especially the drums, which are the thing that probably stands out the most to me. The guitar riffs are just as heavy, being perfectly combined with the blast beats and other aspects.
The harshness of the vocals from the start of ‘Augury’ are quite interesting; Impious Throne obviously holding quite a sacrilegious image with their work.
So overall, Impious Throne blends in their tremolo picking along with the other guitar riffs pretty good, along with the double bass drums and raw vocals. Despite lacking a bit of uniqueness, I’d definitely recommend this album to those in look for similarities with other bands. 8/10
