Single Review Bloden Wedd – Metal Still Remains by Elyna

Bloden Wedd returns with a powerful anthem, “Metal Still Remains,” reaffirming the immortal power of Heavy Metal. Devastating riffs, epic choruses, and the unwavering force of the genre intertwine in this triumphant return of the Chilean band. A sonic journey that pulses with spirit, energy, and metal passion.

Welcome to a new edition of Metal Momentum, the sacred space for reviewing the latest singles in the realm of metal. Today we review “Metal Still Remains,” the newest work by Bloden Wedd, considered by many to be the first melodic power metal band in Chile.

Since their beginnings in 1993, Bloden Wedd has bravely and determinedly pursued the path of melodic power metal, in a country where fans predominantly gravitated toward extreme metal and NWOBHM heavy metal. However, in 2001, the band released their second work, the endearing album “Raging Planet,” via Toxic Records, which catapulted them into the spotlight and made them recognized as an emerging force in Chilean power metal. This attracted a multitude of fans who resonated with their powerful and honest musical approach.

The band’s current lineup consists of Daniel Elbelman on vocals, Gustavo Toledo and Ricardo Martínez on guitars, Benji LiRock on bass, and Max Acuña on drums. With over 20 years of experience, three full-length albums, and an EP, Bloden Wedd is back with the single “Metal Still Remains”. Regarding production, this track was mixed and mastered by Simone Mularoni at Domination Studio. The single also features a lyric video, produced by Boris Mauna.

Lyrically, “Metal Still Remains” is a Heavy Metal anthem. Now, saying “it’s an anthem” may sound a bit monotonous—every song in metal is an anthem. But what stands out about this single is that it convinces you, because Heavy Metal is presented here as an essence, as a living element. It’s more than music, more than devastating riffs, thunderous drums, or legendary vocals; it’s spirit, blood, courage, energy, and life. Heavy Metal is that force that runs through your veins and lifts you up even in the darkest moments, when nothing makes sense, when life gets tough, when your brain is overwhelmed by so many things, and even your body fails you from exhaustion; it’s there. Heavy Metal is there, personified by countless people around the world, who perform it with their souls and transmit that unifying and healing energy to all who listen to it, receive it, recognize it, and treasure it in their hearts. In short, Heavy Metal is a refuge, medicine, energy, and life for all of us, who have it written in our DNA.

Musically, this 3:52 track follows a 4/4 time signature, at a steady, mid-andante tempo. It kicks off with thunderous riffs and a demolishing rhythmic base, which gave me strong vibes of Amon Amarth’s “Twilight of the Thunder God,” albeit at a slower pace. The vocals burst forth forcefully in the verses over a tapestry of palm-muted guitar riffs, followed by continuous riffs and exquisite drum beats and rolls. Meanwhile, the bass blends perfectly with the guitars, deepening the listening experience and infusing an extra dose of commanding and explosive energy. Meanwhile, the great Daniel Elbelman impeccably performs the catchy polyphonic choruses, which bear Bloden Wedd‘s unmistakable vocal signature; intense, powerful mid-register, descending and ascending vocal lines, and a solemn and infectious energy that Daniel has developed during his more than 20-year career leading Bloden Wedd. In turn, the brilliant guitar solo develops in two-part harmony, without grandiloquence, but with the essence of NWOBHM and echoes of Iron Maiden. At times, even Labyrinth appears between taps and arpeggios in a display of exciting sounds, bringing me thousands of flashbacks to epic moments in my life, where Bloden Wedd was present in my music player, giving me refuge, strength, and a sense of belonging in a world that until this day seems strange and alien to me. Towards the end of the song, the voice recites the final sentence: new generations of metalheads will inherit the spirit and power of Heavy Metal, and it will never die. This declaration is enhanced melodically and rhythmically by the melo-death metal sound of the beginning, crowned with brilliant drum rolls and an abrupt ending, thus sealing the return of this legendary Chilean power metal band.

Thus, Bloden Wedd’s “Metal Still Remains” is the universal declaration of the eternal influence of power metal, and its healing, mighty, and transformative spirit, delivered in a tapestry of talent and artistry.

It’s also the return of one of my essential bands in Chilean metal. And not so much because they have a discography as extensive as other local bands. It’s more of an intimate bond. Like when you meet a great friend just when you’re going through a difficult time. And no matter how hard everything is, that friend is there to instill encouragement and energy, to give you comfort and powerful words that can completely change your vibe. That’s my story with Bloden Wedd. Their second album. “Raging Planet” is one of my most beloved albums, because it was that unexpected friend who came into my life and ears and stayed with me for years, making me understand that I am part of this wonderful tribe called power metal. Because metal never dies, nor will it die as long as its sons and daughters exist. Because, in short, metal still remains. 10/10
