I had the pleasure of receiving the promo directly from the band and in a format that is not very normal for Black Metal.
The correct way to say it is a small format. Hahahaha.
I’m talking about an 8cm CD only, better known as 3″. A format, as I said, not very used in Black Metal, or better yet, rarely used, at least to my knowledge, but within the Dark Ambient musical genre there are several labels releasing albums in formats typical of this type of musical resource. But let’s talk about the band. A band, or rather a One Man Band by a person who already has another One Man Band called War Blasphemy and who belonged to Epping Forest in the past.
And what does this musician bring us in this release (by the way, it’s already the tenth release)? We have here a direct and primitive black metal, without any embellishments to fill “gaps”. So, from the outset, I warn you that it is only for lovers of Black Metal in a more Raw style, without any bullshit and shitty feelings other than hatred for humanity and whether you like it or not, I simply don’t give a shit about what you think.
This record contains six parts, one of which, the first song is an “intro”, and we are reduced, so to speak, to only five songs. Well, in reality there will only be four or less? Because right in the middle of this release there is an Ambient song and there is more… Apart from that… The band “attacks” the ears with its rottenness and dirty Black Metal, I would say that sometimes it reminds me of some very old bands, if you are expecting virtuosity, forget it, but it has what at least in my opinion it has, the ability to do more than what is present here. But… That is not what it wants.
The intention of the person behind this band and/or personal project, at least in my opinion, is to try to make a Black Metal “different” from what has been done. Did I understand correctly, or incorrectly? I don’t know for sure, to be honest.
I found several things that reminded me of bands from the 90s, without seeming like a typical Scandinavian style, or the Hellenic style, or even the Teutonic style. But at the same time it felt like I was back in the 90s.
In this release, the band never got close to the Blast beats that are quite characteristic of Black Metal nowadays, there are no symphonic or orchestral parts, and they don’t mix other styles with the Black Metal present here. Maybe I was right in thinking that the band is trying to do something different, even though it’s impossible to do so in this musical style.
Perhaps the most correct thing to say is that the Black Metal that the band is playing is more of the genre, you are listening to this and you know that it is this band, even more difficult nowadays. However, the musical cadence used by the musician in his songs will help with that. The drums, the guitar with a rotten sound and a bass with an even rotten sound and that sounds to me like there is a very serious distortion there could give its stamp and recognition.
In a world where many bands sound like copies of copies, is there a need to be different and create something unique? Can’t you play what you like, even if it sounds like dozens or hundreds or even thousands of other bands out there? This is just a personal matter, nothing to do with the band itself.
Returning to the music played by the band…
The Black Metal played here, and I’m trying not to be repetitive, is primitive, without a doubt, and I would even say basic, despite some solos and leads that appear throughout the release, it’s raw, but it has a feeling that at least seems genuine to me.
I’m doing what I like and I don’t care about your opinion. That’s enough for me, that’s what I felt when I listened to this little CD.
I hope the band continues to release quality music, in my opinion, and that I can listen to it. Until the next release. 8/10
