It’s been five years since we last had a full-length dose of Grafjammer’s death rattle, but now it’s here. In the good old Dutch tradition of cramming in as many diseases as possible, this fine piece of work is titled De Tyfus, De Teerling.
And what to do with the artwork? The men of Grafjammer thought, “Let’s hit the DIY store and grab a plank, some tape, and a few spray cans.” Not everyone will appreciate this creative expression, but personally, I think it’s brilliant Banksy Goes Black Metal.
The production is razor-sharp, making Jorre’s guttural rasp perfectly intelligible provided you understand the language, of course. Because all the lyrics are in the filthiest Dutch imaginable. For those wondering what “Hachel mijn bout” means, let’s just say it brings to mind Two Girls, One Cup.
Grafjammer delivers relentless Black-&-Roll, infused with plenty of punk influences. No whining, just full-speed ahead that’s the motto, and they don’t waste any time proving it.
Once the Zuiderzee dikes are sealed and the land is safe from the rising waters, all hell breaks loose with Hachel mijn Bout, followed by the excellent Lijdensverlenger. Krengenslager takes us back in time with some Celtic Frost/Hellhammer-style riffs delicious, this leaves us wanting more.
With their history-drenched lyrics and punk attitude, De Tyfus, De Teerling is an entertaining slab of vinyl. Like the Three Musketeers, Folter, Zwaergevegt, and Black Tapes have joined forces to unleash this album upon the world. Beautiful black-and-grey vinyl, a chunky tape with solid DIY vibes, and a killer CD—this release belongs in any Black Metal collection.
Let the plague-ridden souls of Grafjammer into your life and let your typhoid ears bleed! 8/10 by Consanguineus
