Alright alright alright! 2024 has rolled around and here we all are, hopefully ready for the new year, and of course our writers Julia Katrin and Tom Osman have too made it through and are ready with this year’s first instalment of The Underground Update!

So, let’s see what’s out there…

BLACK LION RECORDS The clearance sale continues on over at Black Lion Records into the new year which offers us a 50% discount! Head over here to check out the collection and use the code blacklion50 at checkout!

VENDETTA RECORDS To kickstart the new year, Vendetta Records is offering a 30% discount on all physical items and Bandcamp downloads! Head over here with the code sturm, and over here with the code STURM, and make sure you do it before the 10th of January when the sale ends!

S ELF MUTILATION SERVICES Warm wishes to us from the Self-Mutilation Service crew and a reminder to not miss their last promo of the year which is still available over here with a 50% off everything!

NEUROT RECORDINGS The first album pick of the year over at Neurot Recordings for their weekly Pay What You Can segment is ready! This first week of the new year it is no other than And We Wept the Black Ocean Within by A Storm of Light! Head over here to claim your copy now, and simply pay what you can!

M ERIDION New year and new album from Chilean death metal occultists Meridion. The group’s second album Caverns is out now on Iron Blood & Death Corporation. You can listen to the album in full here and purchase the album on limited edition CD or digital.

DEHA Blending depressive black metal and post rock, Brussels, Belgium’s Déhà has been prolific, with the past years seeing a flood of releases. The latest The Illusion of Reach is available now on Naturmacht Productions. Songs on the latest six track album range from just under seven minutes to just over 16, so expect plenty of atmospherics and gradually building intensity, leading into some ferocious whirlwinds. You can listen to the album in full here and purchase a CD, or cassette copy, though stock is running low.

ALTARAGE The time is coming for some explosive, dissonant death metal via Altarage and their forthcoming album Nihl (2 Feb on Sentient Ruin Laboratories). You can listen to the album here where you can also pre-order tha album on vinyl, CD and cassette. For those who would like to proudly display their delight in gut-churning extreme metal there are also long-sleeve shirts displaying the cool album artwork, also available via the link above.

Having to pay gigantic sums for international postage is a real gear grinder.

While it’s our default setting to link Bandcamp pages in the case of new and pre-releases, we thought it would be helpful to add some online stores that might provide a useful alternative.

So if you see a release you fancy, but it’s being sold in a far off land and you don’t want to fork out on exorbitant shipping, see if any of the links below can remedy the situation.
