Centuries of sanctimonious deceit, drawing dark veils around a worm-infested heart of corruption and abuse, greed and licentiousness. With every year the infection becomes more pronounced, the stinking pus and blackened blood staining the once white vestments beyond any dream of redemption. A tired masquerade that can barely find the energy to conceal its wickedness anymore, or to utter the words of benedictions whose meanings have long since been forgotten. Truth is dead and lying in a mass grave, uncovered but for a living shroud of flies and entwined in the pale, broken arms of love, mercy, dignity and Heaven’s Bloated Corpse.
When Ireland’s Leadbelcher signed to Apocalyptic Witchcraft for the release of their debut album, label head Conor Droney described the band and their output as follows…
“Leadbelcher sound like Ireland’s decay given physical form, a suffocating collision of scum-soaked death metal, grinding blasts, and d-beat filth. Heaven’s Bloated Corpse is violent, rotten, and completely uncompromising.” It’s a neat, accurate summation of what this group of Irish underground scene luminaries have summoned up from their collective creative sewer. Formed in 2024 and featuring members and ex-members of bands such as Sermon Of Flames, Mortichnia and Coscradh, Leadbelcher play their own form of rancid, nihilistic music, self-defined as dissident death metal. Ancient death, infused with grind, filth and d-beat disgust it has no fucks left to give. It is the sound of a world rotting from the inside out, a society drowning in its own vile ordure. It is Heaven’s Bloated Corpse…
Opening track ‘Pisscorpse’ is the sound of the malformed Leadbelcher beast lumbering into life, opening its bleary, bloodshot eyes to survey the horror spawned during its hibernation…and then ‘Narrowhouse’ unleashes the full vehemence and careless violence that lurks beneath its cracked and peeling skin. Explosive, rabid, grim and grotesque – drums like hammer blows into soft flesh, vocals akin to a formless howl from the void. Heaven’s Bloated Corpse is an invocation, a bellowed challenge, a primitive ritual of disorientating sickness. From the chaos and carnage of ‘Immured In Holy Excrement’ to first single, ‘Severance Of Belief’, a nightmare of torture dragged through the wall of sleep into the waking world, Leadbelcher’s delivery of seething sickness and unstoppable death marches is relentless. The vocals are key to the dread ambience of Heaven’s Bloated Corpse – part drug-addled, disease-ridden, psychotic tramp, part tentacled God of perversion and madness – they ride the warped guitars through tidal waves of darkness like a spirit of war. An aptly abhorrent conclusion, ‘Light Of Vile Elucidation’ is the last mutant creation to crawl from Leadbelcher’s cauldron. A shambling, twisted vision of horror it oozes evil and deliberate, calculated malice; a final tsunami of acidic hate to dissolve the filth of the world and reduce everything to a morass of formless madness. This is the sonic embodiment of anger, disgust and the belief in nothing but the end.
Recorded and mixed by Josh Robinson at JSR Audio in Belfast (From Ruins, Skullmaiden, Valley Of Despair etc) and mastered by James Plotkin (Blasphemy, Khanate, Leviathan etc), Heaven’s Bloated Corpse possesses the perfect sound to convey its absolute renunciation of humanity – laced with fear and horror, touched with criminal insanity and with the requisite power to grind the wretched dregs of the species into the dirt. Adorned in the corrupt and contorted artwork of Adam Medford (Morgue Supplier, Cadaver etc) Leadbelcher’s malignant manifesto will be unleashed by Apocalyptic Witchcraft on October 16th on Limited Edition 10″ vinyl, digipack CD & cassette.
