#AlbumReview: Halftribe – Disappear in Silent Ways via Dronarivm by Pegah

There are times in our lives when we feel the need to disappear for a while. It is not about non-existence, but about turning inward—a time when there is no need to speak or communicate with anyone, no expectation of waiting for someone or being waited for. It is a kind of self-imposed hibernation. As someone who had been reflecting on this state throughout the past week, encountering “Disappear in Silent Ways” by Halftribe (Ryan Bissett) was almost like a sign. As the cover art, Jacob Newman‘s photograph of a greenhouse represents this concept using light as its defining natural element, evoking a sense of peace while symbolizing a quiet connection to life and existence.

Listen” invites us to pay attention to the environment. A voice repeatedly states, “What we listen to is constantly feeding us”, emphasizing that everything we absorb from our surroundings while listening influences us, especially at a subconscious level. Human beings are constantly nourished by voices and sounds, making it essential to be mindful of what we allow to shape our inner world. Throughout the album, rather than relying solely on electronic textures, drones, and subtle melodies, field recordings play an essential role in embodying the natural world. “Dusk” combines layered drones with the gentle sound of rain, depicting the fading light of the horizon and the transition between day and night. Its soundscape gradually penetrates the mind, mesmerizing the listener while dissolving the boundary between the inner and outer worlds.

Sanctuary” points toward a sacred, protected place—the refuge we may discover within our own disappearance. The soundscape becomes increasingly dreamlike, a quality that continues into “Yearn,” while the gentle sound of flowing water reinforces the sense of peace that can be found through a connection with nature.“Windfall” shifts the focus from water to wind. Accompanied by distant whispers, the soundscape evokes an open green field where the wind moves gently through the grass and trees. Light filters between the branches as clouds drift slowly overhead, creating a scene of quiet movement and serenity.

My favorite track, “Disappear in Silent Ways,” takes the listener to the banks of a quiet river, where birds sing and the gentle flow of water invites complete surrender. Here, one can disappear into the flow, letting it carry them to nowhere. It is a moment of release and freedom. The final track, “Everything Comes to an End,” reminds us that every retreat eventually comes to an end. We must return to life, to our visible selves. Nothing lasts forever—not even our own existence. We move forward, continuing the journey of life, until the day comes when we disappear completely.  9/10
