#SingleReview: A Perfect Circle – Starless for #METALMOMENTUM via BMG Rights Management by Pegah

A few days ago, I was surprised to discover that A Perfect Circle had released a new single. The news immediately generated excitement among fans and sparked speculation that a new album may be on the way. For now, however, neither the band nor their label has issued any official announcement regarding a forthcoming release.

For me, the release of this single alone was great news, especially since I have found myself returning to A Perfect Circle’s music quite frequently in recent weeks. Therefore, I decided to dedicate this week’s review to “Starless”. My first impression after listening to the track was that it promises a return to the essence of A Perfect Circle—precisely what I had hoped for. While retaining the band’s distinctive identity, the song presents it through a fresh and creative style. Following “Eat The Elephant (2018)”, I occasionally wondered whether A Perfect Circle might continue moving in a different stylistic direction. However, “Starless” suggests otherwise, reconnecting with the atmospheric qualities that defined the band’s earlier works, from “Mer de Noms (2000)” to “eMOTIVe (2004)”.

As for the lyrics, they carry the surreal and philosophical qualities long associated with A Perfect Circle. At certain moments, the track even evokes some of the darker and more introspective atmospheres found in Tool. Overall, “Starless” feels like a rewarding return to the band’s roots—one that longtime fans, myself included, who felt a certain distance after “Eat The Elephant”, will likely find deeply satisfying. 9/10
