SorgSvart – Gardar og Grende, which was originally released by the band in 2025, will be out May 1st. LP via Einheit Produktionen & CD via Einheit Produktionen, Pesttanz Klangschmiede & Schattenpfade

On the first day of May, when the year turns as it hath done since before coin and clock held sway, SorgSvart shall release the album Gardar og Grende, shaped by one hand, one breath, and one will. A work forged in solitude and from an independent mind.

SorgSvart is the one-man band of the multiinstrumentalist, singer, and composer called Sorg, rooted in Kvinnherad, Hordaland, where land, weather, and silence still shape the rhythm of life. Beneath the glacier Folgefonna rises SorgSvart, the lone voice, the voice of a solitary composer whose discipline, structural clarity and total authorship have led some to name him the „Peasant Mozart of Black Metal“. Not for spectacle, but for complete command of form, unstoppable work ethic and a devotion to craft unsoftened by the modern world.

SorgSvart is many in sound, yet one in spirit. No guild, no machinery, no market chorus stands behind it, only a man at work, as was once the way. The artist Sorg represents a rare figure in contemporary black metal, a total composer, mastering voice, instruments, structure, and vision without mediation. His music is not manufactured. It is composed, patiently, independently, stubbornly, and free from the market‘s hand.

The title of the album, „Gardar og Grende“, speaks in words older than profit and progress: „Gardar“, the fenced homestead, raised by hand and need; „Grende“, the scattered dwellings, bound not by rule, but by kinship and custom. Together they name a world where life was local, mutual and hard-won, where a man stood not above the land, but within it.

„Gardar og Grende“ is wrought from a longing for the old peasantry life of Norway, the life of small holdings, shared toil, inherited knowledge and quiet dignity. A life unruled by distant masters, where worth was measured not in yield alone, but in care, endurance, and belonging.

Gardar og Grende draws from Norwegian folk tradition, dark acoustic ritual, and black metal‘s austere spirit, yet refuses modern excess and speed. The music is intentionally unpolished – shaped by breath, wood, string, pipe and skin – resisting the smoothness and abstraction of contemporary production. Beneath its sound lies a quiet defiance of modernity: a turning away from consumption, commodification and centralized control, but also a turning toward self-sufficiency, tradition and peasant dignity. This is not ideology shouted, but lived and worked into the music itself. SorgSvart does not seek attention. The music stands for craft over product, place over progress, and freedom found in simplicity.

„Gardar og Grende“ is released on CD and Vinyl, honoring the tangible artefact – music meant to be held, listened to fully and carried forward. This is music as homestead, the singing silent resistance. SorgSvart is a voice from the mighty mountains and fjords of Kvinnherad, kept honest and free.

Artist bio:

Sorg is a Norwegian multiinstrumentalist, educated folk musician, singer, and composer from Kvinnherad in Hordaland, working under the name SorgSvart. Raised between mountains, fjords, and the glacier Folgefonna, his music is deeply shaped by landscape, rural traditions and a longing for the old Norwegian peasantry way of life.

SorgSvart is a true one-man band – all music written, performed, and recorded by Sorg alone, grounded in hard-earned craftsmanship, anti-modern conviction and a rejection of commercial excess. Drawing from Norwegian folk memory, dark ritual, and black metal austerity, his work stands apart as slow, deliberate, and fiercely independent.
