Single Review: Dysthen – Lotus / Wheat for #METALMOMENTUM by Sílvia

Dysthen is a new Black Metal band emerging from the prolific lands of Sweden, and their debut single contains two tracks of pure, absolute coldness, in the form of raw apocalyptic sound.

“Lotus” explodes in your ears before you can think, it’s like an icy bite to your brain. The crushing drums compete with the metallic riffs in order to freeze the blood in your veins. And THAT bass, its low notes resonate and gives a bit of comfort amidst the chaos. The insane shrieks add even more darkness to the whole, enhancing the oppressive atmosphere, and I can feel the anguish, the suffering… When the intensity slows down, I look around and all I can see is a desolate landscape of frozen fields and the haze surrounding me. The raw guitars and the bass fulfill my thirst for self-punishment, along with that tortured screams, until the brutality is unleashed again. The final minute hurts like a knife stuck in the ribs.

The second track, “Wheat”, alternate mid-tempo parts with some outbursts of intense drumming, the riffs are cold and the bass is always there underlining them or even becoming the driving force for a while. The torn vocals are pure anguish. Can’t understand the lyrics but I feel absolute despair. Drums build a wall of sound that’s totally overwhelming, the oppression grows as the song progresses and the riffs become obsessive.

It’s a great debut for this new band; the only member I know is Osgilliath (Sanghrial, Walls of the Desolate, ex-Seid), and I was really curious about his new music. A new darkness has landed, are you ready for it?  9,5/10
