#AlbumReview: Various Artists – Echoes of Alternate Realities via Razorbleed Records by Pegah

“Echoes of Alternate Realities”, hosted by Rethymno Rocks Festival, is an annual event at the Fortezza Fortress as the main opening event for this festival. Compiled by Vincent Andelmoth (INsCissorS), this compilation includes several national and international artists who gathered to perform rare and unreleased tracks.

Beyond the darkness, a fire is rising: “Under the Veil of Darkness, I Rule” by the Greek artist Anglachel, unfolding like the narration of an epic scene. The soundscape and atmosphere of this track evoke Tolkien’s world, conveying a sense of power and dominance. “Vanishing Geometry (Introduction)” by Italian artist New Risen Throne, with its peaceful layers of sound, feels like pillars of light emerging within the darkness. It seems like a pause between two events. This sense of calm continues until “Nohehn” by the French artist Treha Sektori begins like a ritual, with the sound of ceremonial drums serving as an opening for the next track. “Hymn of the Absolute Deceit” by the well-known Swedish band Arcana brings back the epic atmosphere. The use of folk instruments, combined with male and female vocals, makes the track an impressive and emotional ending to the first part of the compilation.

With “Ihai III-II- The Ashen Parallax Protocol” by Greek artist iNsCissorS, the compilation enters a new phase, gaining momentum through multiple sound layers that feel both dark and ritualistic. “Billions of Graves” by the Italian project Vestigial continues the ceremony, as darkness embraces a vast desert, accompanied by the sound of the wind. As the night gradually falls and moonlight shines over the desert, a landscape filled with graves is revealed before our eyes. The closing track, “Miner’s Canary”, presents a soundscape perfectly suited to the ending. It evokes an endless passage through a deep, desolate, and dark place, as if someone were working there alone, waiting for a companion in his silent life… 9/10
