#AlbumReview: Lamasz – Fioritures via Le Mont Analogue by Pegah
“Fioritures” is the latest album by Montreal-based ambient artist and producer Pier-Luc Tremblay, the person behind the ambient project Lamasz. Through this album, Tremblay invites us to find a sense of peace in nature by paying attention to its smallest details—the sounds, colors, and forms that surround us. As for the creation of the album, he explains: “For my latest album, Fioritures, I worked with used classical music cassettes I found in a music store. I randomly created loops from different fragments of the recordings, without really knowing where they would lead. I then combined them with field recordings and other textures, letting the music slowly take shape through the process.”
From the very beginning of the album, the listener is taken into the heart of nature—the sky above, the grass beneath, and a gentle breeze touching the face. It feels like the perfect soundtrack for “Meditation”, inviting us to slow down, be present, and simply observe the world around us. “Les Bernaches” echoes the sounds of Canada geese, capturing their smooth and mesmerizing movements across the water and their flights in formation. There is something beautiful in the way they move together, evoking a sense of family devotion, connection, and loyalty.
The flow of life goes on as the wind moves through the “Cèdres”, where one can observe their resilience, strength, and sense of spiritual protection. The soundscape here gets bolder and more expansive, as if the trees are teaching us to remain strong in the face of life’s challenges, standing firmly while everything around us seems to fall apart and slip beyond our control. “Signet” brings us back to the present, allowing us to reconnect with its gentle, uninterrupted flow and simply remain in the moment.
This is where the “Correspondence” takes place. We are no longer simply observing the flow around us; we become part of it, connected to the whole and carried along with its gentle movement. The atmosphere of this track somehow reminded me of “Eos” by Ulver. You may say how come? But I can’t explain…
Finally, “Les Voiliers” feels like the arrival of evening, when everything slowly comes to an end, but in the most peaceful way. We watch the sailboats gently move across the water, gradually drifting away until they disappear into the fading sunlight. The whole atmosphere in this track leaves behind a sense of tranquility and quiet closure. And now, after finding beauty in nature’s smallest details, it is time to go home—stronger, more hopeful, and grateful for the beauty that surrounds us. 8/10
