Swedish One-Man Black/Progressive Metal Project Unleashes Its Most Personal Release Yet

Northern Sweden’s one-man black/progressive metal project Tårfödd has officially released its new full-length album, En känsla av hopplöshet, today through Purity Through Fire.

Created by Swedish multi-instrumentalist Simon Lindgren, Tårfödd is a solitary musical endeavor with Lindgren handling the songwriting, lyrics, guitars, bass, synths, and drums/drum programming. The project draws from the bleak atmosphere and emotional intensity of black metal while pushing into more modern and progressive territory.

With En känsla av hopplöshet, Tårfödd explores a somewhat different musical direction from previous material. The album combines elements of black metal with progressive and modern metal, expanding the project’s sonic palette while maintaining the darkness and emotional weight at its core.

The album was written and recorded in late 2025 and is rooted in an intensely personal subject: the loss of someone close to Lindgren.

That loss serves as the emotional foundation of En känsla av hopplöshet, with themes of grief, absence and hopelessness woven throughout the record. Rather than simply creating an album built around darkness, Lindgren channels a very real personal experience into the music, giving the release an atmosphere that feels both expansive and deeply intimate.

“It differs a bit from what I normally sound like. It’s more modern and more progressive metal with some black metal infused. It was written and recorded late 2025, but not released until now, and the theme of this album is the loss of someone close to me.”

The result is a record that stands at the intersection of cold black metal atmosphere and progressive metal’s broader sonic possibilities. En känsla av hopplöshet represents another step forward for Tårfödd while remaining firmly rooted in the darker traditions of extreme metal.

The album was mastered by Simon Lundin, with cover artwork created by Vindur of Mörkvind, known for the artwork Drömskogen.
