Tårfödd is the solo project by Simon Lindgren, a Swedish multi- instrumentalist musician who has been really prolific: releasing three full-length albums and two EPs in 2024, two albums in 2025, and then another one this year 2026, plus this EP… besides some collaborations with Mörkvind, and now this EP… and well, only half the year has passed… 

The first track, “Förödelse” (“Devastation”) is a delicate acoustic piece. The guitars bring soft and hypnotic melodies, which contain a great charge of emotion. The sound of that plucked guitar gives me goosebumps; there’s something dramatic in it… Fragility and smoothness go hand in hand and run through the listener from head to toe, with a melancholic background. The addition of the piano near the end adds a more soft texture to the song. It gives me the feeling of being in a calm and familiar place, in the middle of the forest, in peace, where nothing and no one can hurt me…

The second track, “Förödelse II”, explodes without warning. It is based on the harmonious melody of the opening track, this time played with electric guitars and bass, drums and adding agonizing shrieks and also some clean vocals. The melody is still beautiful, but the lyrics, while containing a hint of hope, are devastating. Now I understand the title… The sound of the bass is amazing, this instrument plays some particular melodies that make the music sound deep and intense. It’s a touching piece, and combines fragility with aggression in a very strong way.

These two first songs have a waltz cadence, which probably is responsible for the goosebumps they give to me. The second half of this EP is different, but it’s also very atmospheric and dark, bordering the depressive stuff.

“Den enes död…..” (“The death of one…..”) is a raw track, the guitars create an obsessive and dark landscape, the drums set the constant rhythm, and the voice becomes even more agonizing and desperate. The phrase “Den enes död en annans bröd” (“One man’s death is another man’s bread”) says it all, reflecting all the drama. I really like the dark and thick atmosphere, it pulls me in and doesn’t abandon me.

The last track on the EP, “En värld i spillror” (“A world in ruins”) is the most devastating and depressive: it starts calmly and sad, but it soon annihilates our senses. The black metal instrumentation, with all the tremolo guitar riffs, the intense drum patterns and a prominent bass, along with the lo-fi shrieks and some ambient synths, are occasionally interrupted by acoustic passages. They are not for solace, though; the plucked guitar brings an extra amount of grief to the table. It’s our final moment, our time has come… “Död åt oss alla!” (“Death to us all!”) is repeated as our extinction mantra. We are dancing our final waltz on Earth, we’ll soon be nothing. And as strange as it may sound, this is devastatingly beautiful.

The cover art shows the instant before a meteor impacts on Earth, an image that gives a brutal sense of imminent destruction. It’s the perfect artwork for this album.  9/10
