#AlbumReview: Dimhall – Himlakroppar for #MetalChronicles by Sílvia
The first time I listened to Dimhall I was really surprised. “Himlakroppar” (“Celestial Bodies”) is their second EP, released in March 2025, and I had a sensation of familiarity, as if I had found an old and almost forgotten friend. Let’s face it, the first song is infectious as hell and I can instantly feel great vibes related to other bands… but Dimhall has created their own sound, and it’s something spectacular.
“Tvenne Solar” (“Two Suns”) is highly addictive; it starts with a very catchy keyboard melody and some effects are being added little by little, until guitars and drums kick in forcefully. The progressive feel of the song unfolds with all its power. I really enjoy the alternating use of clean and harsh vocals, the folk melodies of keyboards, and the optimism that this song distills. I feel like singing along the chorus, even though I don’t know a word of Swedish. Can’t get it out of my head! The keyboards play a major role in this track, and the guitar melodies accentuate the triumphant feel of the song, while the drums are very energetic, but it’s never too much. Lyrics are full of fantasy, about to be reborn with hope and peace, optimistic… And the music really transports you to a place where that is possible, if it existed.

“Mångatan” (this is a Swedish word, can be translated as “The Moonlight Path”, the moonlight reflection above the ocean) is a very different song from the previous. The tone is melancholic, and emotions overflow with intensity at some points. The keyboards create a dense atmosphere, the bass is much more prominent in this song and that makes the melodies resonate deep, severely. The clean voice is more melodic and the harsh vocals sometimes turn more rough in this track. Duality intensifies with a sad backdrop… Lyrics are dark and painful, and yet, some instrumental passages offer a glimpse of hope. This song is beautiful and shines through the melancholy it conveys.
The artwork, done by Ludvig Cardell, guitar player and songwriter in the band, depicts this duality: one face drawn in warm tones and another one in cool tones, staring at each other with white eyes, with a sad and worried expression, and plenty of waves shaping their hair… I think that they are looking into the void and each of them find their reflection like in a mirror, with changed emotions. Just my interpretation.
This EP is short and intense, and makes you dive through a lot of emotions. Great work! 9/10
