Single Review: I, ForlornPale Monolith for #METALMOMENTUM by Pegah

The Dutch solo project I, Forlorn has released a new single taken from the upcoming EP “Requiem”, scheduled for release on January 6th. Titled “Pale Monolith”, the track opens with a soft, dream-like folk soundscape, hinting at the artist’s parallel work in the folk project Thurnin.

As the composition slowly unfolds, the soundscape finds its direction, moving forward like a cold breath in a silent winter landscape. When the acoustic guitar enters, it introduces a heavier, more doomy dimension, deepening the sense of isolation and weight. Eventually, the arrival of the electric guitar completes the atmosphere, adding density and emotional gravity without breaking the track’s restrained momentum.

By blending folk textures with the darker, heavier atmosphere of doom, the track creates a gentle soundscape that feels both gloomy and comforting, making not only “Pale Monolith” but the forthcoming EP an ideal companion for the winter nights ahead. 8/10
