Album Review: Darvaza – We Are Him via Terratur Possessions / Amor Fati Productions by Consanguineus
The Norwegian-Italian duo Darvaza hardly need an introduction in today’s Black Metal landscape. Consisting of Omega — the prolific mastermind behind Nubivagant and drummer for Moloch and Liber Null — and Wraath, known for his ferocious presence in Behexen and Ritual Death, Darvaza have long stood as a beacon of uncompromising darkness. Since their formation in 2015, the pair have refined their craft across three formidable EPs and one full-length, steadily forging a sound that embodies both chaos and devotion.
Now, with their second full-length album, Darvaza return in full infernal bloom — a record where their vision of Black Metal reaches new heights of ritualistic grandeur and spiritual ferocity.
The album opens with a grandiose and ominous introduction — orchestral, cinematic, and charged with a sense of impending revelation. Then, with “Holy Blood,” the veil is torn open, and the inferno erupts. It’s an immediate statement of intent: Darvaza have no interest in tempering their blasphemy or diluting their sound. The guitars burn with Omega’s unmistakable signature — thick, dissonant, and yet strangely melodic — while Wraath’s vocals cut through like invocations hurled into a storm.

From there, the journey deepens. “A Last Prayer in Gethsemane” channels the spiritual agony of its title, evoking the desperation of faith inverted into damnation. “Chaos.Fire.Devotion” continues the assault, its title alone summing up Darvaza’s essence — unrelenting, incandescent, and spiritually charged. It is here that the duo’s meticulous attention to sound truly shines: this is not a lo-fi basement recording, but, as Terratur Possessions proudly points out, a true studio album. The production brings depth and dynamism without sacrificing the raw edge that defines the genre.
Midway through the record comes one of its most compelling moments: “Slaying Heaven.” The tempo slows, the atmosphere thickens, and the weight of the music becomes almost ritualistic. Even as the pace drops, the tension coils tighter, revealing the duo’s mastery of dynamics — proof that ferocity is not only found in speed, but in intent. Every note here feels like an offering cast into the abyss, each beat echoing through the vaults of an unseen temple.
By the album’s final moments, Darvaza have achieved something rare: an experience that feels complete. This is not merely a collection of songs but a spiritual ordeal, a descent into the essence of what Black Metal was always meant to be — raw, transcendent, and possessed. The record captures the duo’s chemistry at its most potent: Omega’s disciplined yet dangerous craftsmanship paired with Wraath’s unholy conviction.
Darvaza have long stood apart by channeling the primal intensity of the genre’s roots while commanding a modern sense of purpose and precision. With this new release, they affirm their place among the most vital voices in contemporary Black Metal — a band that understands that true darkness is not chaos without meaning, but order born from blasphemy.
And as the closing ritual fades into silence, one final mantra resounds in the void:
We sang into the darkness,
And the void sang back.
Darkness answers darkness —
For We Are Him.
