ALMANON Explores the Horrors of Edgar Allan Poe in His Debut Concept Album, “Primitive Infernal”

Black/Death Metal band ALMANON officially announces the release of their highly anticipated debut album, “Primitive Infernal”. Delving deep into dark literature, the work is a conceptual journey through seven macabre short stories by the master of horror, Edgar Allan Poe, and is now available in physical and digital formats. Born during the pandemic isolation of 2021, when the first lyrics were written, “Primitive Infernal” began to take shape musically in 2023, with the process being completed in early 2024. The result is an album that combines the rawness of old-school Black and Death Metal with a dense and oppressive literary atmosphere. The recording, carried out at the Covil do Terror studio in Fernandópolis, São Paulo, was a crucial element in defining the album’s sound. In a marathon two-day session in April 2025, the band recorded live instruments on separate tracks, without a metronome, to capture a visceral, organic, and authentic essence, reminiscent of the production methods of the 80s and 90s. Production was handled by the band themselves in partnership with Junior (Terror Cult, Necrolatria, Dischord), who also handled mixing and mastering, ensuring a sound that is simultaneously polished and savage. “Primitive Infernal” is a narrative experience. The album opens with the title track, a sinister intro composed and performed by musician Aletéa Cosso (Miasthenia), which uses a classical guitar to establish the primal tone that permeates the entire work. From there, the listener is drawn into Poe’s universe, with a focus on the short story “The Pit and the Pendulum,” which is split into two tracks, “Despair” and “Pendulum,” intensifying the sense of agony and suspense.

The album art, created by Márcio Blasphemator, visually expands the concept, with a front and back cover that directly connect with the tracks and their themes. To ensure complete immersion, the physical CD includes the lyrics and their translations, connecting all the elements of the conceptual narrative.

The physical release of “Primitive Infernal” was made possible by a collaboration of important labels from the Brazilian underground scene: Heavy Metal Rock, iHells Produções, Misanthropic Records, Terror Shop, and Trevas Nascemos.
