Album Review: Desaster – Kill All Idols via Metal Blade Records by Michelle

Black/Thrash metal legends Desaster have made a fabulous return since their 2021 full-length ‘Churches Without Saints’, this time with yet another complex and well-made album: ‘Kill All Idols’. Dive into the chaotic heavy riffs, fast drums and just pure madness as you’re being blown away by both the rough and soft aspects this record holds. While obviously, like pretty much any other band, Desaster did not keep their original sound from their earlier works, this aspect can be easily ignored given the really good sounding albums that have been released throughout the decades.

Starting with ‘Great Repulsive Force’, this track holds both fastness and melancholy, a combination well-put in practice as the distant sounding clean vocals almost dominate the song at some point. The calmness is interrupted by the main riff taking lead, not long before the track fades into nothingness.

‘Towards Oblivion’ and ‘Throne of Ecstasy’ were the two singles featured prior to the album’s release, giving the listener a brief yet pretty straightforward idea about the overall sound of the record. The energetic/fast riffs are a main aspect, as expected from Desaster.

‘Kill the Idol’ is the self-titled track of the album, as some would call it. Despite its shortness, it kept me very entertained throughout its 2 and a half minutes, which definitely makes up for it. You have rythmicness, powerful vocals (much like on every other song) and fast tempos, which I think are the main key to a perfect song.

Another song I liked a lot is ‘They Are the Law’, which again lacks some extra minutes. Still, just like the previous track I wrote about, its composition excuses whatever I would’ve complained about. Overall, Desaster didn’t disappoint me in the slightest considering the fact that I manage to get bored easily listening to a new album. To put it simply, this is definitely something you should check out! 10/10
