Album Review: Path of Redemption – Echoes from the Depths via Northern Shadow by Sílvia
Path of Redemption is a new band, formed in 2024 by three musicians coming from the underground Metal scene. The line up is: Map (also in Ouija) – guitars and vocals; Fosc (Lafosca) – drums, synths and backing vocals; and Shogoth (Estertor, Ouija, Ered) – bass and guitars. They have allied to create a dark and intense EP that will pass over you like a storm.
“Echoes from the Depths” marks their debut and it contains four tracks of captivating atmosphere. Well, you know that something big is coming right from the start, when those menacing synth notes make their way into your brain… just to announce a first track full of sharp riffs underlined by a pulsating bass, a voice that seems to emerge from an open tomb (deeply guttural and rotten), and relentless drums that have no problem in becoming overwhelming at times, when the bass pedal is used frantically, and toms and cymbals are beaten to exhaustion.
If you have survived these first 5 minutes, then you are ready for the rest. The second track, I must say the synth notes in the beginning remind me of the opening for another song… But anyway, the atmosphere is set and after this initial eerie moment, darkness comes to stay. The drum’s pace is slower for a while, but when they start increasing their intensity you’ll soon realize how good the variations are. And the riffs are of a menacing kind, creating a gloomy ambiance and provoking a certain uneasiness. Which is great; I personally love when music affects my emotions. I don’t just listen to it, I can feel it.

The song “Where Broken Spirits Lie” combines ferocity with an atmospheric load. The bass and the rhythm section do an incredible job, giving the music a big depth and even a sinister touch. The drums and the dreadful vocals provide the energy and aggression of this track. It seems to be fueled by fire. And “Horizon” closes this EP, an instrumental piece starting with some mysterious synth notes, and it’s mainly driven by guitars that play fantastic harmonies while the bass is rumbling in all its splendor. Not to mention the overwhelming job done by drums, this guy has a lot of precision and high technique.
This is a very intense debut by Path of Redemption, I highly recommend you to check it out and get trapped into its darkness. 9/10
