Album Review: Nihil Kaos – Mystagogue via Mara Productions by Michelle

The first thing that came to mind as I started listening to this album was the way this band goes straight to the point, which is something I pretty much enjoy with my short attention span. Either way, the heavy riffs and synced drums are the main aspect here, which is pretty obvious considering Nihil Kaos are what most consider black metal.

The first track takes a sudden turn near the end and goes somewhat calmer, though this pause is quickly interrupted with the progression of the guitar riff and the vocals. Overall, the first couple of songs gave me a good impression considering the fact that Nihil Kaos keeps up with their intention of coming off as an anti-religious act. The maintanance of the harsh and somewhat high pitched vocals combined with the heaviness of the guitar riffs are what makes them stand out, despite a lot of other artists being described the same.

‘Synthamata’ is kind of a small pause after the agressiveness of the previous tracks, the calmness in it being quite evident with the absence of the growls. Either way, the songs continue pretty harshly, just as expected.

If I had to choose a song that stood out to me the most, it would be ‘Pendulum Luciferi’, with the way the fast tremolo picking switches tempos at the beginning of it. The vocals seem almost like straight out of hell, the combination of high pitched growls combined woth the overall agressive aspect of this track making me quite intrigued. Not to mention the calmness of the outro which I think added a nice touch to everything.

To put it simply, Nihil Kaos have proved their satanic agenda with their latest release in the most barbarous and forthright way, and so I think this album would be perfect to those in look for a heavier record to dig into. 9/10
