Single Review: Astral Warrior – Regal dels Déus for #METALMOMENTUM by Sílvia
I recently started listening to Astral Warrior, a Heavy Metal band from Catalonia, and from the very first moment I realized that their music would be essential to me from now on. For its power and its meaning.
The four musicians responsible for this symphony of steel are:
Mia Campdepadrós (Lord of Fire) – vocals and guitar
Juan Urbano (Lord of Air) – lead guitar
Albert Amela (Lord of the Earth) – drums
Carles Puigventós (Lord of Water) – bass
You know when you listen to a song for the first time and it sounds so damn familiar, as if you’ve been listening to it all your life, as if it was a classic… and it turns out it’s a new song, released just a few weeks ago, by a band you didn’t even know until recently? That’s how I feel about “Regal dels Déus” (“Gift of the Gods”) by Astral Warrior, a band that started in the 90s as Astral Warriors and released a demo, then went into hibernation until 2019, when they were reborn and released their debut LP, “Metalunya”, a very good Heavy/Power Metal album. On March 7th, they released their new single, “Regal dels Déus”, and with this, Astral Warrior are back, with a more powerful, heavier, more epic sound than ever.

This song hooks me, it makes me feel good. “Regal dels Déus” is like a timeless anthem, sounding familiar and relatable, a song that becomes legendary and unforgettable. Astral Warrior‘s music is epic, powerful, the kind that makes me want to raise my fist and sing at the top of my lungs when I hear it. With my hair waving in the wind and a beer in my other hand. Oh and with a storm with dark clouds and heavy thunder and lightning approaching from the mountains afar. More or less.
As for the music, I can say that this song has a remarkable rhythmic base, with a very prominent bass. The low notes create a fantastic soil where the guitar work is growing and flourishing, especially the flawless lead guitar when it plays an excellent solo. Drums play as it’s expected, in a constant mid tempo and making big use of cymbals. Great playing. The song also features the addition of some keyboards that add an extra touch of epic atmosphere to the whole thing (during the guitar solo and also in the final part of the song). The a-bit-harsh and high pitched vocals fit perfectly with this track, and the lyrics are a fantastic tale, a legend about three knights and an iron messiah. It’s a “symphony of steel”, as the lyrics say, a delightful ode to Heavy Metal with many clichés and a very catchy melody.
I really think that Astral Warrior has a brilliant future ahead, meanwhile let’s enjoy this single again and again. 9/10
