Single Review: Warkings – Armageddon by Elyna

“Warkings summon the fury of the final battle with an apocalyptic blend of thunderous riffs and a mythic theme. Join us as we explore their metal vision of Armageddon where legends rise and empires fall”. by Elyna Steel

In 2018, a brotherhood of metal warriors emerged from the realms of the old continent: Warkings. Led by Georg Neuhauser as The Tribune, alongside The Crusader, The Viking, and The Spartan, the band brought into existence a mythological universe filled with incendiary riffs, triumphant choruses, and an energizing stage presence. This brotherhood is occasionally joined by the sorceress Morgana le Fay (Secil Sen), completing the front line of battle.

Since their debut, Reborn (2018), through Revenge (2020), Revolution (2021), and Morgana (2022), Warkings has developed a solid career which has led them to share the stage with bands like Powerwolf and Feuerschwanz. Also, the band has garnered a growing community of fans, multiplying like an expanding empire, proving that their war is not fought only with swords, but with guitars, drums, bass, vocals, and keyboards.

On July 4th of this year, Warkings will release their fifth album, “Armageddon,” via Napalm Records. From this album, today we’ll review the self-called single, released on April 9th. “Armageddon,” which runs for 3:01 minutes, features Georg Neuhauser and Morgana Le Fay on vocals.

Its lyrics portray the apocalyptic image of the final battle between the forces of Good and Evil, in which everything ends in fire, destruction, and despair. It arrives wrapped in fire, destruction, and despair. The divine-earthly duality fades when “saints die the same,” reminding us that no one is spared the judgment of Armageddon. Musically, “Armageddon” follows the classic 4/4 rhythmic structure, stable throughout, at a medium tempo. Its sound follows the melodic line of Powerwolf, Tungsten, and some nods to Arion, with spectacular cinematic orchestrations that project depth and drama to the music. The rhythmic base deploys pyrotechnic and incendiary power, inviting headbangers and mosh pits.

The choruses are catchy, and anthemic, with polyphonic choir arrangements backing the lead vocals, adding intensity and personality to the whole thing. Morgana Le Fay’s voice is particularly notable; an alchemy of rawness and devastating power, reminiscent of the strength and dark, edgy timbre of the legendary Robert Plant during Led Zeppelin’s heyday, and of Doro Pesch with Warlock.

The bridge doesn’t feature a solo per se, but rather powerful guitar riffs, along with epic, warcry-like polyphonic vocals, instilling a sense of warrior solemnity in the sound experience. Meanwhile, the vocal harmony of the final chorus, with Morgana backing it, is a powerful adrenaline rush that heralds the end of the track, with intense pulses, riffs, and an abrupt conclusion. Finally, the quality of the production creates a sound that feels classic yet modern and fresh.

Thus, “Armageddon” is a track that combines the sounds of epic power metal, with an excellent technical and lyrical display. The apocalyptic narrative is elegantly represented thanks to top-quality instrumentation and vocal performance. Meanwhile, Morgana Le Fay reveals herself as a powerful vocal force, evoking the magic of maestro Robert Plant. The combination of epic choruses, killer riffs, thunderous rhythmic base, and dramatic orchestrations give life to an enticing first taste of Warkings’ fourth album, “Armageddon”; an exciting, epic, and dark symphonic adventure. As dark and as fiery as the apocalypse. 9/10
