JD Miller, the amazing Swedish Melodic Rock and metal band, is back! On January 17th, they released “Devils ReVengeance,” a new version of their 2011 song. In this version, they combine their already well-known balance between captivating and hypnotic melodies with demolishing rhythmic bases and riffs.
“Devils ReVengeance” also marks a milestone in the band’s career. With this single, they began working with Scream For Existence Marketing, a worldwide-known marketing agency that supports bands such as Cradle Of Filth and Jinjer. They aim to target a wider audience—and will definitely achieve it!
With 14 years of experience under their belt, JD Miller has managed to find a sound that is at once elegant, eclectic and powerful, thanks to the collaborative work of its members; Pete “The Heat” Halldén (vocals), Jonny “Synkop” Trobro (bass), Tommy “Lukather” Timonen (guitars) and Emil “Tyskie” Eriksson (drums). Regarding the single, Peter Halldén spreads his enthusiasm for this new era, promising that “Devils ReVengeance” represents the current spirit and essence of the band, and that it is just a first taste of a more than promising year for JD Miller.
The narrative of “Devils ReVengeance” explores themes of internal conflict and redemption in the face of life experience, framed in an intense melody that gives body, character and coherence to the lyrics-music duet.
This powerful and intense 03:51-minute song is structured in 4/4 time at a mid, walking tempo. This meter gives it an enveloping and sensual atmosphere, infused with groove. Meanwhile, its sonority strongly echoes bands like Sabaton, Tungsten and Powerwolf in the orchestrations, the quality of the sound, and the red-hot rhythm. It also has nods to the early years of Extreme in terms of riffs and melodies, as well as echoes of AOR and 80s Hard Rock in the catchiness of the choruses and the simplicity and fluidity of the music. Modernity emerges in the background orchestral work and the overall sound quality of the cut though.
The structural pattern is verse-chorus.It starts intensely, with thunderous pulses and riffs, which are backgrounded by the orchestrations that elegantly integrate everything. The first verse features undistorted guitars, giving way to the bass, which takes centre stage. After that first moment, the energy changes. It gives way to the magical whirlwind of the forceful melody and rhythm that simply captivates, remaining stable throughout and providing stability, balance, and also intensity to the whole. On the other hand, the chorus section is particularly noticeable. The voice and the aggressive drum pulse, together, even flirt with industrial metal, evoking the incendiary energy and the enveloping and dancing cadence of Rammstein, creating a festive and cathartic atmosphere.
The emotion that “Devils ReVengeance” delivers is one of explosion and freedom, a kind of liberating force for the writer today, on a particularly complex day. When reaching the limits of your tolerance for stupid and stressful situations, you finally take off your burdens, you shed the social “clothes” you’ve been wearing for many days, and you tell everyone and everything to go to hell. You take your car — or motorcycle, bicycle, skates or whatever has wheels — and you simply drive away, in a moment of deep catharsis. And this whole scenario, being wrapped in a jumping energy that, despite how bad everything seems, makes you feel happy, fun and even flirtatious.
