In the Polish city of Krakow, there seems to be something in the water something that fuels the creation of incredible projects when people join forces. Such is the case with KIR, a collaboration between Harvest (formerly of Outre) and Ferment (of Poroniec and Ferment). The duo brought their creative minds together to launch something new. For the drum work, they enlisted Krzysztof Klingbein (known from Tottenmesse and live performances with Belphegor), and they hit the studio to record their debut album, titled L’appel du vide, which translates to The Call of the Void.

The album is wrapped in a 1930s-style propaganda poster cover, designed by vocalist Harvest, and released by the label Godz ov War Productions on CD.

After a brief atmospheric intro, DestinationVoid, the intensity begins with the fast and aggressive Monument. While the lyrics and some titles are in Polish, this does little to detract from the experience. The following track, Znów, shifts to a more mid-tempo pace, slightly heavier but no less intense.

The raw production adds a final touch to the dark and immersive atmosphere the album conveys.

The closing track, Apoptosis, is a 9:28-minute epic finale that concludes the album with wild tempo changes, intense solos, and heavy riffs. KIR is a two-man project that makes you wish for a live performance, though the question remains whether it will take to the stage or remain a studio-only endeavor.

The CD is available for purchase through Godz ov War Productions or KIR directly via their websites or Bandcamp. Fans are hopeful that the album will eventually receive a vinyl release as well. 8/10 by Consanguineus
