Some bands have become cult or become cult and many times the question is “how”, “why”, “when” etc… There is also the question “Are they cult?” “Seriously?” etc etc.

The reasons are many for the band to become “something” more important and in this case and my opinion, there are some…

To start the year the first release was made.
The style of music the band plays
Geographically location also helps.
It has been edited by the band and possibly in a limited edition.
The famous “word of mouth” “that is good” and supposed controversies, many of them never proven.
The name of the band was precise and almost like an obligation a strong name that created a buzz.
The zines that existed at the time and all of did reviews, interviews of the same bands, and sometimes many of them were true copy+paste. Ahahahahahah

And we were in the 90s’, at the beginning of many musical genres, others establishing rules and founding pillars and a lot of things would flow in the river of music.

Baxaxaxa in my opinion, I do not say that it was everything I wrote above, but it appeared at the right time and created, in my opinion, a certain “legion” of listeners. The first release never had the original I’m honest, I had recorded it on an old cassette and it played several times, I’m honest about that. Much later (many years) I got a reissue.

Unfortunately, the band hasn’t been very active since the first release but… What they’ve done, it’s been good. Sometimes more is worth little and good… but not so little either. ahahahahah

Let’s get down to business and talk about the music…
It is a magnificent, wonderful, admirable, astonishing, surprising, astonishing, fascinating, impressive, dazzling, extraordinary, sensational, fabulous, enchanting, splendid, phenomenal, stunning, stupendous, splendorous, magnificent, portentous, singular, radiant, excellent, recent, icy, fast, raw, with blast beats, and with an agonized voice?

No, none of that, If you’re expecting something I mentioned just now, forget it, turn around, go listen to a band that’s hype and that’s on the edge. Baxaxaxa is none of those things.

So why do I review a band that isn’t even a single quality of the above-mentioned?

Simple, because the band is good and their Black Metal despite being “dated” is well done, it has the essence that many bands nowadays don’t have. Black Metal is not just about having good riffs, it doesn’t need to be fast, it doesn’t need to be raw, “honeyed” and “beautiful” as it is nowadays.

Black Metal is hate, it’s direct, it’s “I don’t like you”, it’s anti-everything, it’s dark, it’s obscure…

Baxaxa that’s it. Music can be “dated” and what they do, has already been done millions of times, by thousands of bands, in tens of thousands of demos/eps/splits/albums etc, etc. But what matters is doing well, doing well is much more important in my opinion.

I’m glad some bands continue like this, I’m glad Baxaxaxa is back, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to listen to this album and appreciate a good Black Metal album with the essence of it. The trip to the past was really good. Thank you very much.

Now listen to the album and enjoy… 9/10 The Key Keeper 666
