Short Ones XIII #UndergroundRecos

Hello there,

Another week, another month. Yes, time is running and we do not notice it.

Hope you can enjoy my choices for today.

Band: Artach
Title: Sworn to Avenge
Label: Depressive Illusions Records
Release date: 25 June 2021
Country: Canada
Format reviewed: High-quality Digital Recording

Hmmmm… What a “mix salad” this release. I did ask myself several times, “This is the same band?” and can explain why. They are a kind of Heavy Black Metal band with some Thrash Metal touches here and there. But, the reason I made to myself was not cause of the music styles but about the songs. The mix is not done at the same time on the songs, but separately. So there are songs that look Heavy Metal, some Black Metal others some Thrash Metal songs mixed with Heavy Metal. Even if the album is catchy and with a good hearing, it looks that the band doesnt know (yet) the path they want to travel… Or they do? Hmm… Doesn’t matter anyway. Give them a listen.
NOTE: Till now no song available, except the full album but schedule for 25 June on Black Metal Artists YouTube channel.

Band: Cathexis
Title: Untethered Abyss
Label: Willowtip Records
Release date: 25 June 2021
Country: USA

To start I have to say this… I’m not a big fan of Brutal Death Metal or Technical Death Metal. I’m more a traditional guy. Yes, it’s true. But I’m always looking for good music. In this case, I found this American band, and thankfully that I decided to check them. It’s a very good album, very well elaborated, the songs are strong and not “boring” like the majority of the bands inside this music style. Yes, that is my opinion, “look at me, I can play 12.7 notes by second and I can do 3257 riffs in just one minute of playing, bla bla bla”. Yes that is my idea about this music style. Not this case. Fortunately. The album is very good, well worth the listen and I advise it. I truly do.

Band: Existential Dread
Title: Full Moon Bliss
Label: Moonlight Cypress Archetypes
Release date: 24 June 2021
Country: Canada
Format reviewed: High-quality Digital Recording

How to describe this band? Hmm… First, they are Doom. That is sure. But not only. They are Drone like is mentioned in the email that I got from the label? Yes, they are. But not only that. They are more. They move also inside the experimental style and some free or improvised music. The hearing is different and always pleasant, to be honest. Not an amazing album or an amazing band, but what they do, they do it very well, and because of that I truly advise them.

Band: Oppress.
Title: Regina Mundi
Label: Independent
Release date: 17 June 2021
Country: United Kingdom
Format reviewed: High-quality Digital Recording

To start… Nothing new here. Yes, nothing new. The listening is not bad, but not a big and amazing EP. But, there was/is something on the songs that managed to grab me and listen to it. Maybe is the simplicity of the same that managed that. Cause of that, I’m here writing some lines and advise it to you. You should listen to this and give it a try to this one-man band.

Don’t forget to support the bands and labels.
