Altar Of Patrons #5

WHEEL – Moving Backwards Thanks to a lack of time and an information overflow, I lost the overview at the end of 2019. I’m sure there have been good releases in December, but nothing I could dive into deep enough so far. So this shout-out goes to an amazing band from Finland, that delivered my album of the year: WHEEL.

They released their debut “Moving Backwards” in February… And what a beast of an album it is!!! My first impression was the video for “Where the pieces lie”, that caught my attention immediately – A powerful song full of anger and sadness, and the video makes the emotions even stronger. When the album came out, it needed to grow for a while, but that’s what I love about this kind of music.

I went through different phases: First: Wow, this rhythm section is on fire!!! (for me the most striking feature). Second: Great riffs and expressive vocals… The power of these guys is mind-blowing!! Third: The lyrics… definitely worth a closer look. They’re thoughtful and critical, about current social themes and personal fights. One of my favourite songs is Wheel, as it brings all these elements to the top. It’s about the loss of our privacy and the carelessness, how people deal with it because of convenience and laziness. Moving Backwards is an incredible debut album and highly recommended. Check it out, if you haven’t done yet.
