Black Friday VIII – Underground Reco

4 min read

Another week as gone… We are always running in this life. Luckily for me and for all of us we still have METAL inside our veins.
This week I was listening to these releases but also other ones. But let’s stay right with the following ones. Enjoy it…

Band: Vredensdal
Title: Gather, All Ye Hellions
Label: Vintage Cult Records (Tape) / Black Mourning Productions (CD Digipack)
Release Date: 14 January 2019 / 20 February 2019
Country: USA
Format Reviewed: Digital Promo

I got this promo directly from the band and many many thanks for that. What do we have here? Well, if you looked already to the cover maybe you already know what to expect. Yes, it’s Black Metal. And a very good one. This release is divided into 3 songs. The first song, “Ved midnatt . . .” is the best way to start this release and everything that I heard after. How it starts, the rhythm of the song and the way it grows until the next song. Very good. “Gather, All Ye Hellions” is the second song and the one who gives the release’s name and it’s a kind of tribute to the 90’s Black Metal with the chords used, the rhythm used on the song, the atmosphere created, the way that the vocals are used and the drums, “simple” but giving a touch that sounds “perfect”.“Die By The Sword” (no, it’s not a Slayer cover) is the last track on this release and it’s the confirmation that is release is a very good one. This is a band that everyone should pay attention to and follow them. I will.

Band: Chud
Title: Dead
Label: Independent
Release Date: 01 February 2019
Country: Australia
Format Reviewed: Digital Promo

CHUD…Who are they? Well, I found them recently. They are from Australia and they play a mix of Primitive Death Metal, with Industrial  (the cadence and the beat) and some groove at the same time. Well done to be honest. The songs managed to get into my ears very well and I often found myself shaking my head or stamping my feet with the rhythm of the music. In this album, there are songs more related to the Death Metal genre and others more related to the Industrial genre, but in my opinion, the Industrial genre has a bigger presence. Sometimes they remind me what Misery Loves Co. made in self-titled album back in 94. No, I’m not saying that CHUD is dated, no they are not, I just said what they remind me. It’s a very interesting release. Something that I will check many times and I will try to follow them (notifications are already enabled). Check them.

Band: Nex
Title: The World Collapses
Label: Independent
Release Date: 31 January 2019
Country: Poland
Format Reviewed: Digital Promo

When I opened this promo in order to listen to, and I saw the cover, Death Metal for sure. 100% correct… And start to listen to the music, reading all the info attached (thanks a lot to the PR who sent it) and… Well, it’s Death Metal but not the kind of Death Metal that I was expecting, I understand it very quickly while reading the promo sheet and from what was getting out from my stereo. They play Death Metal with progressive touches and some groove here and there. The 7 string guitar and the 6 bass guitar gives them the weight and help them a lot in the direction the band chose. Even if this kind of Death Metal is not my beach (I prefer it traditional), this release from this Polish band is a very interesting release and very good details here and there. It’s an album that deserves a listen… Or several…

Band: Lousberg
Title: The Death Of Humanity
Label: Dunkelheit Produktionen
Release Date: 25 January 2019
Country: Germany
Format Reviewed: Digital Promo

Sometimes I need to relax a bit. Sometimes I need to listen to something different. Sometimes I just need to listen to something good and something that can “transport” me to another dimension. LOUSBERG is one of the bands that play the kind of music that I’m looking for (sometimes). They play… Ambient Music. It’s a musical style that I always appreciated and when I got this promo I decided to listen and to write the correct words about what I felt while the music flow. I can’t… I didn’t find any (correct) words to explain it. Just a simple and felt expression… This is good, relaxing and I love it. Listen to them…
